Abstract
Excess body weight is the sixth most important risk factor for health in the world. Obesity amplifies the risks of type 2 diabetes (T2DM), hypertension, cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, arthritis, and several cancers and is estimated to reduce average life expectancy. Weight-loss is an important goal for overweight or obese persons, particularly those with type 2 diabetes. Lifestyle interventions, in the form of dietary modification and exercise, are effective means of managing and treating high serum levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in individuals diagnosed with dyslipidemia.
