Abstract
This study aims to explore the impact of
the school principal’s leadership behavior on the teachers’ innovative
behavior, and the mediating effect of work engagement. A total of 510
questionnaires were distributed among elementary school teachers in Changhua
County, Taiwan, of which 466 were valid. The effective response rate reached
91.37%. The results showed that vision building within the school’s principal
leadership behavior, and vigor and absorption within work engagement
significantly influenced teachers’ innovative behavior. Further, it was found
that work engagement partially mediated the relationship between the school
principal’s leadership behavior and the teachers’ innovative behavior. Finally,
several suggestions were provided for the school principal and teachers of
elementary schools.
